A Christian’s Guide to The Law of Attraction

Over the last few years, I’ve immersed myself in the world of self-help and personal development in an attempt to get unstuck, push past limiting beliefs and create breakthroughs in various areas of my life.

During that time, I’ve noticed that you can’t talk about personal growth or life coaching without eventually coming across the Law of Attraction.

Have you ever heard someone say…

•     “Like attracts like”

•     “What you think about you bring about”

•     “To get love, you have to give love”

•     “Mind over matter”

•     “You are what you think”

•     “Birds of a feather flock together”

•     “Energy goes where intention flows”

•     “You get out what you put in”

•     “Misery loves company”

Many of these renowned phrases stem from concepts that support the Law of Attraction.

At first glance, they may seem like regular mainstream ideas, but have you ever checked to see if these ideas align with your faith in Jesus as a Christian?

The deeper I looked into this universal law, the more I realized I needed to drag this hairy subject into the light and start a meaningful conversation with fellow believers. That’s why in this post, I’m going to address some important questions, like:

•     What is the law of attraction?

•     Where does the new age law of attraction come from?

•     What does the Bible say about it?

•     Is it safe to practice the law of attraction in your life as a Christian?

•     Or does the law of attraction miss the mark biblically?

If you plan to read personal development books, listen to self-help podcasts, attend personal growth seminars, or invest in life coaching, I want you to be able to recognize the red flags inside of this industry and check any questionable thoughts and beliefs you hear against the truth of the Bible.

And if you are someone who has believed in the law of attraction apart from what the Bible says, I acknowledge that you are searching for answers spiritually, but I want to invite you to take a closer look at what the Bible says about the law of attraction and examine where you’re placing your faith.

What Is the Law of Attraction?

The law of attraction is the belief that you attract every, relationship, thing, circumstance, or experience, whether good or bad, in your life because you’ve given your thoughts and attention to it.

Simply put, “like attracts like”. If you think a negative thought it will attract negative energy or things and if you think positive thoughts, you’ll attract positive energy or things into your life.

It is believed that you can use the power of your mind to translate your thoughts and materialize them into reality. This is often referred to as manifesting.

If we dig a little deeper, we find that the New Thought Movement has turned the law of attraction into a spiritual practice that does not honor nor worship the God of the Bible.

They believe that humans are always connected to the constant, powerful, universal source, and our thoughts are spiritual energy that radiates out to the universe in the form of vibrations. Whatever vibrational frequency or energy that you send out always comes back to you, like a magnet.

How The Law of Attraction Works

So if you want to feel good, be happier, achieve success or attract positive things into your life like financial abundance, good physical health, better relationships or nicer material things you simply need to….

1.    Ask the universe for that which you desire

2.    The “source within you” answers and becomes

3.    Then you bring yourself into the vibrational frequency of that which you’re asking for to manifest your dream or desire into your life

If you are a Christian, I hope you can already see some red flags, but if you don’t yet – let’s take a look at where the law of attraction and New Thought Movement comes from.

Origins of The Law of Attraction

I believe it’s wildly important to understand the law of attraction and the roots of the New Thought Movement because it will help us decide as Christians whether or not the ideology is something that aligns with our faith or comes from the adversary.

The New Thought Movement began in the early 19th century and grew out of the ideas and theories brought forth in The Quimby Manuscripts.

Phineas Quimby, who was a mesmerist and medium, believed that “every phenomenon in the natural world has its birth in the spiritual world,” and believed that “all disease is an error in the mind”, or a patient’s mistaken beliefs.

He claimed to heal himself by into tapping into the same healing power that Jesus used. He began experiments to test his theory about healing patients’ diseases without medication through the redirection of his patients’ minds.

As I read through different pieces of the manuscript it was clear that Quimby acknowledged and referenced the Bible and teaching of Jesus Christ, but he began to draw new conclusions that are in direct conflict to the Bible. For example, he believed…

“…‘Christ’ never was intended to be applied to Jesus as a man, but to a Truth superior to the natural man–and this Truth is what prophets foretold. It has been called by various names but is the same truth. There is a natural body of flesh and blood–this was Jesus. His mind like all others was subject to a law of truth that could be developed through the natural man. This power Jesus tried to convince people of, as I am trying to convince people that there is such a state as clairvoyance, that is, that there is a power that has an identity and can act upon the natural man, which the natural man is ignorant of. When this power acts upon his senses it acts in the form of an idea or thought. The natural man receives it like the servant but acts as though he was the father of the idea. The world gives him credit for this superiority over the rest of his fellow men.”

This is just one of one Quimby’s many conclusions that clearly show us where the gospel of Jesus was fractured and where the devil began to pervert biblical concepts and turn them into an entirely new false promise. From a Christian’s perspective, this is the heart of the matter!

The Secret

 

Fast forward to 2006 in the modern 21st century, and you may recall hearing about or even reading the book that took the world by storm – The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.

The book caused a surge of interest (and controversy) around the law of attraction, manifesting, visualization, and positive thinking. Today, this book has sold over 30 million copies and has been translated into 50 languages. 

There’s no shortage of big-name celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Jim Carrey, and Steve Harvey who endorse and practice of the law of attraction.

Oprah even claims to be a Christian while believing Jesus isn’t the only way to salvation. 

Today’s version of the law of attraction has radically evolved since the 19th century though. Teachings of Jesus and the mention of the Bible have been removed and the basis for the law of attraction now claims to be rooted in “laws of science”.

Not only has Jesus been removed, but the LOA teachers of today claim that we can become gods. Here are a few startling excerpts from the book, The Secret:

•     “You are God in a physical body. You are spirit in the flesh. You are eternal life expressing itself as you. You are a cosmic being. You are all power. You are all wisdom. You are all intelligent. You are perfection. You are magnificent. You are the creator, and you are creating the creation of you on this planet.”

•     “The earth turns on its orbit for You. The oceans ebb and flow for You. The birds sing for You. The sun rises and it sets for You. The stars come out for You. Every beautiful thing you see, every wondrous thing you experience, is all there, for You. Take a look around. None of it can exist, without You.”  Note: The word You (capitalized) addresses the reader, not God.

•     “So whatever way you look at it, the result is still the same. We are One. We are all connected, and we are all part of the One Energy Field, or the One Supreme Mind, or the One Consciousness, or the One Creative Source. Call it whatever you want, but we are all One.”

This, my friends, is not a new or a secret. In fact, this is the same lie that comes from the oldest lie in the bible when the serpent deceived Adam and Eve.

•     “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:4-5 (NIV)

It’s been over a decade since that book was written, but the deceit from Satan is rampant still today. You can find modern-day teachers of the law of attraction coming out with books, courses, and coaching. Some of the most popular teachers of LOA include:

•     Ester & Jerry Hicks (Abraham)

•     Helen Schucman

•     Eckhart Tolle

•     Gabby Bernstein

•     Jack Canfield

•     Bob Proctor

•     Dr. Wayne Dyer

•     Louise Hay of the Hay Publishing House

•     Deepak Chopra

•     Brooke Castillo

Now, there’s obviously a much deeper history than what I’ve shared here, but for brevity’s sake, I think you’re up to speed enough to begin diving into a conversation about how we should navigate the law of attraction as Christian.

Twisted Truth

I can point out dozens of scriptures that make a case that the law of attraction is a biblical principle, which I’ll share in a bit… BUT… and it’s a big but…

It is the nature of the devil is to pervert the straight paths of the Lord, per Acts 13:10. In Galatians 1:7, it warns believers “…some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.”

If you can recall, Quimby, the father of the New Thought Movement, twisted the tenets of the gospel together with his own “mind science” ideas. That’s why today you can find threads of biblical truths that make the law of attraction sound like it aligns perfectly with our faith in Jesus as Christians.

But there are some key differences between spiritual junkies who practice the law of attraction and Christians. For example…

Ways The Law of Attraction Misses the Mark Biblically

1. Worshiping Creation & Not The Creator

People who practice the law of attraction ask and pray to the universe (or creation) give no credit to God, the creator.

While the Bible refers to God with many names, it never refers to Him as the universe.  So when you “ask the universe” to provide for you, you’re actually participating in idol worship, which the Bible explicitly speaks against. For example:

•     “Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land; for when they prostitute themselves to their gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you and you will eat their sacrifices. And when you choose some of their daughters as wives for your sons and those daughters prostitute themselves to their gods, they will lead your sons to do the same. Do not make any idols.” Exodus 34:14-17 (NIV)

•     “Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him. But their idols are silver and gold, made by human hands. They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see. They have ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell. They have hands, but cannot feel, feet, but cannot walk, nor can they utter a sound with their throats. Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.” Psalm 115:3-8 (NIV)

•     “Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 12:1-3 (NIV)

•     “This is what the Lord says: “What fault did your ancestors find in me, that they strayed so far from me? They followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves.” Jeremiah 2:5 (NIV)

•     “This is what the Lord says: “Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by signs in the heavens, though the nations are terrified by them. For the practices of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter. Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good.” Jeremiah 10:2-5 NIV

•     Everyone is senseless and without knowledge; every goldsmith is shamed by his idols. The images he makes are a fraud; they have no breath in them. They are worthless, the objects of mockery; when their judgment comes, they will perish. He who is the Portion of Jacob is not like these, for he is the Maker of all things, including Israel, the people of his inheritance— the Lord Almighty is his name. Jeremiah 10:14-16 NIV

•     Of what value is an idol carved by a craftsman? Or an image that teaches lies? For the one who makes it trusts in his own creation; he makes idols that cannot speak. Woe to him who says to wood, ‘Come to life!’ Or to lifeless stone, ‘Wake up!’ Can it give guidance? It is covered with gold and silver; there is no breath in it.” The Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him. Habakkuk 2:7, 18-20 NIV

I also highly recommend reading Romans 1 which clearly warns against godlessness.

 

2. Source Energy    

People who believe in the law of attraction practice tapping into and connecting to “source energy” in order to manifest their desires and dreams into reality.

According to Esther Hicks, a medium who channels a group consciousness from the non-physical dimension she calls Abraham, says, “Source energy is conscious enough to focus, create, and attract. We are fortunate enough to be able to consciously apply our will to direct source energy and attract what we want. It is intimately, infinitely, always responding to your requests, no matter how great or small they may be deemed by you or anyone else who is observing them. There is nothing so big that Source Energy can’t get its thoughts around it—and there is nothing so small that Source Energy isn’t willing to get its thoughts around it.”

This idea is called pantheism. Pantheism is the belief that god is everything and everyone and that everyone and everything is god. For example, a fish is god, the sky is god, and you are god.

This belief direct conflicts what the Bible teaches.

Firstly, God is not man.

•     “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27 (ESV)

•     “God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?” Numbers 23:19 (ESV)

•     “The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: “ In the pride of your heart you say, “I am a god; I sit on the throne of a god in the heart of the seas.” But you are a mere mortal and not a god, though you think you are as wise as a god.” Ezekiel 28:1-2

Secondly, we are not God.

•     “Our ancestors possessed nothing but false gods, worthless idols that did them no good. Do people make their own gods? Yes, but they are not gods!” Therefore I will teach them—this time I will teach them my power and might. Then they will know that my name is the Lord.” Jeremiah 16:19-21 (NIV)

•     “And God spoke all these words: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.” Exodus 20:1-6 (NIV)

•     “But I tell you, in this you are not right, for God is greater than any mortal.” Job 33:12 (NIV)

I love the way GotQuestions.org puts it: “If Scripture intended to teach that “all is God, and God is all,” it would not reference concepts such as salvation, sin, prayer, or judgment, all of which imply an absolute, objective difference between two non-identical things. Scripture is clear: God is not the same as His creation. He is certainly not the same as man.”

3. Meditation

With new age philosophies, meditation is the practice of being still, tapping into your subconscious mind and connecting to “source energy”. Your meditation practice is supposed to help you become self-aware and get a healthy sense of perspective. It’s not about turning off your thoughts and feelings, but rather learning to observe them without judgment to better understand them.

Christians are actually called to meditate too, but the difference is that new-age thinkers meditate and focus on themselves whereas, in Christianity, meditation is all about God.

•     Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Joshua 1:8 (NIV)

•     “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.” Psalm 1:1-3 (NIV)

•     “I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.” Psalm 119:15-16 (NIV)

4. Prayer

If the law of attraction practitioners truly believe we are source energy, then it’s not likely for them to pray because to pray is to acknowledge there is a being to pray to. That’s why you’ll see them practice meditation and being still more than prayer.

However, you may find some people who do pray to the universe. Take this prayer that Gabby Bernstein lead at Oprah’s SuperSoul Session in 2017 for example:

The Bible actually warns against prayers like these (and not just because it worships a mute idol), for example:

•     The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense. Matthew 6:7-8 (MSG)

•     And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Matthew 6:7-8 (NIV)

•     And when you pray, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8So do not be like them [praying as they do]; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. Matthew 6:7-8 (AMP)

•     Rejoice always and delight in your faith; be unceasing and persistent in prayer; in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (AMP)

5. My Will Vs. God’s Will

If you can recall Esther Hicks’ quote about source energy, she said, “We are fortunate enough to be able to consciously apply our will to direct source energy and attract what we want.”

…as if the universe is a cosmic genie and the law of attraction is the golden lamp or magic wand.

God’s word makes it clear that we have the ability to create plans, but ultimately God’s will is superior to our dreams, wants, and desires. For example:

•     “To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue. All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord. Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. The Lord works out everything to its proper end—even the wicked for a day of disaster.” Proverbs 16:1-4 (NIV)

•     “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” Proverbs 16:9 (NIV)

•     “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

•     “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you” declares the Lord…” Jeremiah 29:11-14 (NIV)

•     Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV)

If whatever you desire also aligns with God’s will, nothing will stand in your way of being successful. However, evil spiritual forces can block your access to the things you dream, desire and want.

 

Isn’t There Biblical Evidence That Supports The Law Of Attraction?

As I mentioned before, you can absolutely make a case that says the Bible supports the concept that the law of attraction exists. You can find themes in the Bible like reaping what you sow; asking, believing and receiving; and thinking positively, which I’ll point out below.

We have to remember that context is everything!

It’s easy to cherry-pick verses to support our own self-interests and worldviews but miss the point of these verses entirely – Jesus.

I’ve done my best to include some supporting verses around the ones that practitioners of the law of attraction typically use to confuse Christians into believing this new-age concept.

But don’t just take my word for it. Start reading the entire the Bible for yourself. Understand the context for yourself!

Bible Verses About Reaping What You Sow

•     “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:37-38 (NIV)

•     “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.” Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-11 (NIV)

•     “As I have observed, those who plow evil and those who sow trouble reap it.” Job 4:8 (NIV)

•     “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Galatians 6:7-10 (NIV)

Bible Verses About Asking, Believing & Receiving

•     “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8 (NIV)

•     “You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” James 4:2-3 (NIV)

•     “Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” Matthew 21:21-22 (NIV)

•     “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:23-24 (NIV)

•     “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

•     “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” John 14:12-14 (NIV)

•     “You will pray to him, and he will hear you, and you will fulfill your vows. What you decide on will be done, and light will shine on your ways.” Job 22:28 (NIV)

•     “…‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Mark 9:23 (NIV)

•     “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24 (NIV)

•     “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” 1 John 5:14-15 (NIV)

•     “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)

•     “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 1:6 (NIV)

•     “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.” James 1:5-8 (NIV)

•     “This is what I have observed to be good: that it is appropriate for a person to eat, to drink and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given them—for this is their lot. Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—this is a gift of God. They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart.” Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 (NIV)

•     “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17 (NIV)

Bible Verses About Thinking Positively

•     “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2 (NIV)

•     “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:7-8 (NIV)

•     “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:2 (NIV)

•     “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 2:5 (NIV)

•     “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” Colossians 3:1-4 (NIV)

•     “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:14

 

Is It OK to Practice The Law Of Attraction As A Christian?

When I set out to find the answers to these questions for myself, I really wanted to find evidence that allowed me to “Christianize” the law of attraction, but the deeper I searched the more the Holy Spirit revealed the truth.

It is NOT OK to practice the law of attraction as a Christian.

God intended us to abide by His word. Based on the Bible alone, the law of attraction does not line up with scripture. In fact, the law of attraction blasphemes God.

 

The Truth About Dabbling

Even if you dabble in the law of attraction and say “oh, I acknowledge there’s a God and just replace the word universe with God,” sister, wake up! You’re giving the devil a foothold which Ephesians 4:27 warns against.

•     “…For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols?” 2 Corinthians 6:14-16 (NIV)

•     “And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.” 2 Corinthians 11:14 (NIV)

•     “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:11-12 (NIV)

•     “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.” 1 John 4:1-6

Misplaced Faith

Those who practice the law of attraction have faith in a “higher power” but it’s a misplaced faith. They are not serving the God of the Bible who created the heavens and earth and they do not acknowledge that God sent his one and only son, Jesus, to die on a cross for our sins.

The “universe” or “source energy” cannot do anything for anyone who places their faith in these idols. If you keep chasing “enlightenment” and focusing on your own power and belief in yourself, you will never feel satisfied and your human nature will always crave more.

If you’re tired of seeking and chasing that universal wisdom and “the secret” that will unlock total joy and fulfillment, I want to invite you to look to Jesus Christ.

•     Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6 (NIV)

•     If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. Romans 10:9-10 (NIV)

•     When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. 2What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:20-23 (NIV)

•     “This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.” Romans 3:22-26 (NIV)

•     Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26
